A lot of people are saying this. That Arenanet is banning people on GW1 so they'll play GW2. I don't see the logic in this though. "Hey, I just got banned in GW1 so I think I'll invest time in a game I do NOT like! Oh, and by the same company that left for dead the game I DO like!"

Perhaps I'm missing something here. I do find it odd that while my GW1 accounts were all banned, my GW2 linked accounts are fine.

Also you have a point - Arenanet doesn't seem to be pushing the sale of GW1 in the slightest. A few months back I had problems purchasing on the NC store and when I send in a support ticket, they were no help. I had to purchase from Steam. Then a few months later I tried purchasing something else from the NC store and had issues again, I sent in a support ticket and NO response.

I've also told them after I was banned I'd be willing to buy more GW1 accounts if they answered my support tickets. It's been 7 days no response.

So yes it seems apparent that they do NOT want to sell GW1. I don't understand. They don't want our money?

Old game is old man. But in saying that gw1 is i think the superior even to this day. I really wish they would support gw1 with more content...the game is utterly fantastic.

No, that's not why I think the bans happened. If anything it'd turn people off buying their products. Even the timing of this sale doesn't change the reasons why I think the bans happened, just seems a way for them to try and make a bit of money off the back of the banwave. As I said in another thread, if they were banning people so they'd play GW2 and all these people were innocent (which, let's be fair, most weren't), it'd just make them not want to bother buying another NCSoft/ANet game in case they were banned unjustly again. However, I know Korean companies like to dangle carrots regardless of the actions of their players because at the end of the day, all they care about is the money. So for them, the players banned from GW1 have a 'second chance' in GW2 and they still have your money if you're willing to part with it, and some people will. Let's be honest, we know some people will keep botting/buying ectos etc because they've not realised the value of RL money (or their parents' credit card) compared to e-peen on a video game. For some people the bragging is more important and those people need to step away from the game and take a good hard look at themselves.

Regarding those who were banned unfairly, I think it sucks that ANet won't provide evidence or replies, although I guess with the amount of appealing going on that's legit and people trying to play innocent, it makes it hard for them. Not defending them, just trying to shed some perspective on things their end.

Bravo! someone who thinks the same as myself. I don't know what the reasoning is yet but they really don't want peoples money concerning GW1. THey aren't getting anymore from me for 1 or 2 seeing I already purchased acc's in 2 at beta. Not sure what is up Anet's sleeve but i've been trying to call them out on it. All I get is deleted posts & threads with infraction notices lol

Oh & they won't ban the spamming gold site sellers either. so somethings up there as well. Maybe they are receiving a cut from their sales? who knows.

I've been pondering that one myself and all I could come up with is they think the gold sellers will just turn around and buy a new account to keep spamming so they don't see the point. But surely making them pay to advertise by banning them would be more beneficial? Would at least make it look like they don't approve of gold selling instead of having the same names selling for months on end. At least when the names change, you know they're actually banning them for advertising and it's not ok...

Been a while since I posted in here.

To be fair, I never got GW2, but I did get beck into GW1 about 3 months ago, and I'm totally reliving the magic again, and I've been playing every day since. I've re-hooked up with some old friends, and made some new ones.

I really regret ever leaving.

I never got GW2 either. The changes were far too much. I do hang around the GW2 forums though, and that was even more offputting, seems everyone is a charr-sympathist and anti-humanist.

Lore seems to begoing that way too, a total curb-stomp for why humanity sucks and should be ground into fine powder while, The Searing becomes a national holiday.

Aggreviating, if I could post on the GW2 forums I'd join in that particular debate, though it's a lost cause.

Main thing about GW2 that has completely put me off is the living world concept. I won't buy into the game seeing how I've missed a full season of story apparently.

Guess they didn't learn the lessons that Square-Enix did (FF14) - because FF14 does the whole world incidents (FATE) a lot better in my opinion.

yes, you have to wonder what their thinking....loads of the folks the are pissing off with their treatment of gw will not buy 2 for whatever price (they could give it away and I wont take it---I just cant deal with the female model they use--and that ALL casters look exactly the same even if you choose different faces/hair/etc).

I think they are just hoping to get rid of this game completely--so ban everyone, dont read ANY support tickets....and pray they will migrate? not sure who was smokin' what if that was what they came up with.

I'm sorry, but isn't such view way-too one-sided if you haven't taken the opportunity to explore the game personally, and then base your judgments upon what you've seen?

Besides, they do reply to the tickets, I assure you! =) Unless it's about that "we didn't bot at all" carol.

I cant 'explore' the game...it blue screened on me in beta (and my computer is NOT that old)....I have no desire to buy a game that requires me to buy a new computer to play--and I have read the wikis, the guru as well as the 'official' forums...and the armors are hideous! the characters (female human) ALL look the same and the movement, makes me ill watching....no, no desire to play a game where all the women look like fat bottom girls wearing clown costumes....wont even comment on the other races, but lets just say my comments on humans are the best ones I have.

Nevermind all that, the simple fact that they lock skill bars to equipment and have an attrition-based combat system with no dedicated prot+heal profession nor counters to it nor counters to the counters and so on means GW2 will never, ever be a good Guild Wars game.

there are sooooo many reasons that gw2 fails on soooo many levels. We could post for weeks and not hit them all. BUT there are folks that seem to like that kind of game (for whatever reason), so .....its making money (people also bought windows 8--so I rest my case).

But we need to make sure we are not making a bash gw2 thread....just giving reasons why we are back playing guildwars (the ORIGINAL ).

Having frequented many forums on gw2 since i gave gw2 another go i have one thing to declare...gw1 fans are leagues above the quality of the zealot and nearly fanatical nature of some of the gw2 fanbase.

And...its hard but im struggling after loving gw1 to find that comfort level in gw2...you know that feeling you get with a game where you feel at home?

Why is this?

Why is this?
I think a large part of feeling at home in an online game is the social aspect. GW2 does not exactly do much to create that feeling. Big guilds, multi guild system, megaserver technology and zergs where barely anyone speaks in both PvE and WvW... it makes you feel anonymous. You are just +1 person in the masses.

Now in all honesty it's been a while since I played GW2, but during the time where I played intensively, this was always my experience.

It's also hard these days to find an MMO that's different. The social aspect of these games got worse across the board, and only few developers seem to be interested in fixing it. One of those few could be this one. I don't know much about that game, but there is a thread on their forums about socialization that was started by their devs/CMs. So they actually recognize the problem and care about it, which is a start.

But yeah, I often think about GW and the things it did right to make such a nice community. I think the grouping, trading, guild halls and GvG were all part of making it so nice.

For example, many modern games have Auction House or Broker systems instead of direct trade. But let's be honest: if GW had this, and nobody would trade in Kamdan (or Lion's Arch before), the main towns would probably be dead by now. That would be pretty bad for the game and the "alive" feeling of it.

You can pretty much come up with a reasoning like this for every modern MMO system. Whether it's trade systems, grouping tools or megaservers... they all are aimed at convenience, but they greatly reduced player interaction and the "alive" feeling of the game world. As a result you don't feel "home" as much as you did in older games.
